Racha Yai Island Unveils New Underwater World with Artificial Reef at Siam Bay

Phuket is taking a significant step towards conservation tourism with the installation of an "artificial reef" at Siam Bay, Racha Yai Island, creating a new tourist destination while restoring the marine ecosystem.

This project is part of the "Magical Save Underwater World" concept, which took place from April 11-15, 2026, and was completed successfully, with a follow-up inspection on April 16, 2026.

Project Highlights

  • Installation of an artificial reef at Siam Bay, Racha Yai Island
  • Creation of a new diving spot for tourists
  • Providing a structure for coral to grow and thrive
  • Increasing habitat for marine life
  • Reducing the impact of tourism on natural coral reefs

Importance to Marine Ecosystem

The artificial reef is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it also plays a crucial role in restoring marine resources by serving as an "artificial coral reef" that allows marine life to inhabit and increases biodiversity.

Additionally, it helps distribute diving spots, reducing congestion in natural coral reef areas and promoting sustainable tourism in the long term.

Collaboration from Various Sectors

This project is a result of collaboration between government agencies, private sectors, and local communities, with participation from officials, volunteer divers, and various organizations providing support in terms of materials, equipment, and on-site operations.

The involvement of all sectors is the key to the project's success.

Conservation Tourism Approach

Tourists can easily contribute to marine conservation by:

  • Diving carefully, avoiding coral reefs
  • Not littering in the sea
  • Respecting nature and marine life
  • Choosing tour services with environmental standards

Conservation tourism will help maintain the beauty of marine resources and ensure their sustainability for future generations.

Tips for Divers Who Want to Visit

  • Choose a diving trip with a professional guide
  • Check the weather before traveling
  • Use standard diving equipment
  • Avoid touching or handling the artificial reef and marine life
  • Take photos without disturbing the ecosystem

The installation of an artificial reef at Racha Yai Island is a significant step for Phuket in developing tourism alongside nature conservation, creating both a new tourist destination and helping to restore the underwater ecosystem in a sustainable and long-term manner.

Ok, this spot was recommended by our tour guide. Im glad he made the decision. This place felt like paradise. In today's time, its hard to find a spot thats this beautiful and no crowds. After posting this im sure things might change but I felt like I would do this place justice if I didnt say how amazing it was.

A lovely journey from Chalong to here.
It is best done early because of the tides and also because getting to the island early means there are very few if the bigger motor-powered tourist boats there, leaving the bay completely free to snorkel in.
There is some great fishing, incidentally, along the route — with a lot of dorado in the waters at this time of year.
There’s also a great hotel close by for a weekend stay (or longer, of course) — the Racha.

The most beautiful beach we found near Phuket. The water is clean n clear. Beautiful serene place to enjoy your weekend. You can even do snorkeling here. You must visit this beach. Only thing you don't get anything here so please carry you food water and all essential items with you.

We traveled here with Get Your Guide and it was a lovely day. We swim near the beach, water is pure, clean. We did snorkeling near the yacht, there are some fishes.
It's very quite and beautiful island, maybe 30 people on the beach. I'd recommend go here instead of crowded Phi Phi.
